How sustainable is the Sustainabilitylive! exhibition?

As the sustainable industries event we are conscious of the fact we need to be leading the way and doing the best we can to make our event as sustainable as possible.

With this in mind, for 2012 we have implemented a variety of initiatives to help Sustainabilitylive! work towards becoming a more sustainable event.

Sustainability Policy

Faversham House is committed to minimising the impact of its events on the environment.
We accept responsibility for the environmental effects of our events, both locally and globally,
and we are committed to reducing those effects through the entire life cycle of each event.
The key points of our strategy to achieve this are:

• Measure the impact of each event on the environment, and set sustainability targets for
continuous improvement
• Ensure we comply with all relevant legislation – environmental and otherwise
• Implement a training program for our staff to raise awareness of environmental issues, and
ensure their support for our sustainability policy
• Encourage our suppliers to adopt a similar policy, and make sustainability a factor in
selecting suppliers
• Ensure that all Faversham House events are planned in accordance with BS8901 2009

BSI 8901

Sustainable Development is defined by BSI as “an enduring, balanced approach to economic activity, environmental responsibility and social progress”.

Sustainabilitylive! has achieved the BSI8901 standard which is a sustainable management system that is an integral part of how we manage the event.

BSI Certification

The standard provides a framework of good practice and defines the requirements for a sustainable event management system to ensure an enduring and balanced approach to economic activity, environmental responsibility and social progress.

This is not just a “tick the box” exercise and is part of how we manage our event to be more sustainable and reduce the negative effects we have on our environment.

Green Print Procedure

This year ALL our print for Sustainabilitylive! 2012 will be FSC – accredited. The standard, from the Forest Stewardship Council, guarantees the paper is sourced from well-managed forests.

This is another example of how we are trying to make the event as sustainable as possible. We are also considering the sustainable credentials of our printing companies, by looking at their supply chain and their onsite activities.

Online Exhibitor Manual

The marketing and operations department have worked together to provide exhibitors with an online manual system which allows visitors to organise their presence at the event entirely online. This prevents printing large quantities of paper and makes the process much more efficient.

Visitor Car Sharing

We try to encourage all visitors attending Sustainabilitylive! to travel by public transport, although where this is not possible we have organised a car sharing service. This enables visitors to liase with other attendees to arrange travelling together, this helps to keep environmental impact down and helps visitors share the cost of travelling to the event.

If you have any feedback or ideas on how we can become more sustainable, or if you would like more information about any of the initiatives we already have in place please contact sustainabilityfeedback@fav-house.com.
