NEMEX Steering Committee

Members of the NEMEX steering committee are leading professionals within the energy industry and have been chosen to advise the NEMEX team on current and emerging energy management and regulation issues. Ensuring that the NEMEX seminar programme provides visitors with the most relevant and topical news and developments within the industry.

Steering committee members:

• Ant Wilson, Director for Sustainability, AECOM

Ant gained a BSc(Hons) in Building Engineering from Bath University and went on to join Oscar Faber (now AECOM) in 1979. He champions low energy/carbon sustainable building designs and if recognised as one of the most influential Building Services Engineers in the UK. He has considerable experience in Thermal modelling, low and zero carbon system, façade engineering, environmental sustainability and green measurement tools.

Ant is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers, the Energy Institute and the Society of Façade Engineering and a Member of the Society of Lights and Lighting.

Ant is a CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant, received the AECOM 2007 Excellence Award for Thought Leadership, holds a Silver Medal from CIBSE for contributions to the Institution (2007), was recognised as the most influential person in building services engineering in 2008 by H&V news. HE was the first ever winner of the ACE engineering ambassadors award in 2008 and was awarded the Construction and Building Services Division Prize 2009 by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
 
Ant Wilson
• Martin Fry, Professor, City University, London

MRF&A is an energy and environmental consultancy, formed in 1991.  Its priority areas of interest are as follows: general advice for energy efficiency and energy management, development of energy policy and the commensurate strategic plan, education and training. 

More specifically, Martin is a Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor at City University London, leads the UK input to the European and International work on Energy Management Standards, for the BSI, and is a council member of the Energy Institute.

• Alan Aldridge, Executive Director, ESTA

Alan is a Chartered Engineer with a background in computer based control and automation in the process industries with Ciba Giegy and Ilford Films before becoming involved in energy management with Trend Controls and then TEAM Energy Auditing Agency.

In 1999 he took over the management of ESTA through a period of heightened interest in energy and climate change issues.  Alan has been heavily involved in many aspects of legislation including Building Regulations, Energy performance and Display Energy Certificates, Carbon Reduction Commitment, the Energy Services Directive, the roll-out of smart and advanced meters and now the Green Deal.

• James Brittain, The Discovery Mill

James is the Director of The Discovery Mill specialising in ‘Energy management through people’, helping clients deliver exceptional operational performance, reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions whilst improving service and cutting costs. He is a chartered engineer with more than 15 years' experience in facilities, energy and environmental management.  His work as Heathrow Airport Energy Manager (2007-2011) was ‘Highly commended' in the ESTA Energy Manager of the Year Award, 2010. James is also a guest lecturer for City University's Energy Technology and Economics MSc course and sits on a number of industry steering committees.

• Sarah Beacock, Professional Affairs Director, Energy Institute

Sarah has a degree in Environmental Science and a Certificate in the Assessment and Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning.

She has over 25 years’ experience of the educational and professional sectors and also spent four years engaged in educational consultancy work for financial and HE institutions together with technical editorial work in financial and management subjects.

Sarah has recently represented the BSI’s Energy management standards committee on the European working group as UK expert on energy managers. She also sits on the World Energy Council’s Human Resources Availability committee and regularly contributes articles and presentations on the topic of skills in energy.
