| Nigel Orchard Job Title: Chairman ESTA Metering MG Company Name: Pilot Systems
Nigel Orchard (53) grew up in St Albans, Jedburgh, Solihull, New England and Cambridge, and settled in West London in 1981 where he has lived ever since. He joined the General Post Office (GPO) as an Executive Engineer, moved to Landis and Gyr UK (Meters) and was appointed Technical Director there before setting up Pilot Systems, now a mature business in fiscal meter connectivity. He is experienced in the public sector, corporate and small business workplace. Nigel is also chairman of the ESTA Metering MG and serves on the ASPCop management committee, all with the objective of achieving a good metering and monitoring market. A good working market will serve consumers, businesses, public sector bodies and governments better in reducing carbon and energy cost, and will encourage large energy suppliers to become more innovative. Nigel was also a full-time member of the 'HotHouse', government's (DECC) design review team for Smart Meters. Nigel founded Pilot Systems in 1989; their main product CHIRPS has set the standard for the way electronic meters communicate. This will provide interoperability as the UK moves to smart metering and 3rd Generation data retrieval, ensuring the customer receives value for money with the obligatory roll-out. Nigel's approach is pragmatic; he speaks out when he needs to and listens and responds well. ?Associations such as ESTA probably know the needs of the energy consumer more than anyone else?
Through ESTA and Pilot, Nigel promotes business-to-business, accessible standards, full consideration for members' individual commercial positions, and smaller as well as larger players being heard at government and increasingly European level. He involves as many organisations and individuals to take an active part in this. |
