Seminar Details Lighting is an essential component within the retail environment. It helps create an ambience that both welcomes the customer and highlights what the store has to offer. It is also the second largest user of energy within the Co-operative's food stores. Rapid technological advances in the field of lighting have presented great opportunities to upgrade lighting and realise significant savings in energy use.
We would take the opportunity to present a number of case studies from within the group highlighting the many different opportunities lighting offers to save energy. These include the use of LED fittings, as used in our Strand store, New T5 light fittings for Petrol stations, programmes for the removal of both T12 and T8 lighting and the blanket use of both motion and light sensors within stores.. It would offer an honest view of our experiences of the many new technologies on offer to the food retailer today but would also be of benefit to all retailers and building management professionals
We have introduced an Energy Standards document covering the lighting standards that are to be expected across all new builds, acquisitions and refurbishments as well as when simply replacing old life expired equipment. We would take the opportunity to refer to the CIBSE guidelines with particular emphasis on ensuring that the right lighting levels are designed for each particular activity-rather than the carte blanche application that has so often proved inefficient.
