Seminar Details Soils Washing as a proven technique for remediating contaminated soils in the UK dates back some 15 years, following its first full-scale outing, using our plant at the former Basford Gasworks in 1997.
Its use as a successful method for maximising the on-site recovery of impacted materials continued, with HBR's washing fleet undergoing constant development to increase the range of treatable contaminants and quality of the washed aggregate. These advances were particularly noted for asbestos and organo-tin removal in Holland, the recovery of Mercury at the former Arjo Wiggins in Lincolnshire and the high quality of silts and aggregates produced for re-use at the Olympic Park. A new generation of compact, modular treatment plant is now available offering rapid commissioning times suited to smaller volume applications.
Developments in the secondary treatment of filter cake using chemical oxidation and chemical fixation methods now allows HBR to promote Soils Washing as a truly ?full-service? turnkey solution for on-site remediation.
The presentation will show developments in soils washing and how recent changes to UK waste legislation, will lead to the establishment of several strategically located soil treatment centres, in partnership with landfill operators and developers. Soils formerly classified as waste will now undergo recovery to reduce their hazardous nature or else be reclassified as usable aggregate back to the UK construction industry. The presentation will be of particular interest to those wishing to set up a soils treatment facility incorporating soils washing and other general practitioners within the contaminated land and waste industry.
