Seminar Details
The EU is currently reviewing the WEEE Directive. The results of this Recast process could have significant implications for the current set-up and operation of WEEE systems across Europe, including the UK. Major areas being considered include: 1. Collection targets. 2. Need to include all WEEE streams in WEEE reporting and ensure all WEEE is treated properly. 3. Recycling/recovery targets and minimum treatment requirements. 4. Reuse targets. 5. Exports, shipments of WEEE. 6. Product scope and collection categories. 7. Individual producer responsibility. It is expected that the Recast will have concluded by early 2012 and its implementation will be underway in the Member States. European Recycling Platform (ERP) is engaged in lobbying and advisory work on the WEEE recast at a European and UK level. This first-hand experience will inform this presentation, which will provide a thorough analysis of the impacts, opportunities and pitfalls of the new WEEE Directive. This presentation will be of keen interest to a range of audiences, including local authorities, waste management companies, recyclers, retailers, producers, NGOs and environmental consultants. Founded in 2002, ERP was the first pan-European producer responsibility scheme to effectively implement the WEEE Directive. ERP has collected and treated over 1.3 million tonnes of WEEE from over 37 million people across Europe. ERP operates in 12 countries, collecting and recycling approximately 360,000 tonnes of WEEE per year on behalf of more than 1800 producers.
