Humans, horses, heavy industry and beer - Using natural wetland treatment systems for a range of effluents
| Date/Time: | 24 May 2012 11:45-12:00 |
Seminar Details WWT Consulting has experienced an increase in diversity of client requests for treatment wetland design. We have delivered a range of projects both for domestic and industrial wastewaters, from relatively small scale applications through to highly engineered systems designed to treat large volumes of industrial effluent.
We will present four treatment wetland designs for:
- a new-build school as both a treatment facility and educational resource;
- a rural equine clinic and problems associated with disinfectants;
- a fuel storage depot treating hydrocarbon contact wastewaters prior to discharge to a Scottish loch; and
- a small independent brewery which discharges to ground.
Systems will be presented as case studies and will provide information on design, sizing and performance and the solutions associated with the different wastewater types and system scales.
We will also present the additional benefits these systems can deliver in termns of:
- habitat creation for biodiversity;
- storm water attenuation to combat the effects of climate change;
- production of a source of treated grey water;
- lower installation and operation/ maintenance costs;
- lower energy consumption; and
- educational and recreational benefits.
The presentation will be useful for anyone looking to employ a low cost, low energy solution to wastewater treatment, or in scenarios where mains sewerage connection is not an option. The ecological benefits will be of interest to people wishing to meet climate change and environmental targets.
