Judging and Assessment Criteria

Innovation Award for Environmental Technology

Now in its third year, this award showcases the innovative and exciting new technologies being developed to tackle environmental issues. The winning submission will be able to demonstrably offer significant environmental benefits either as a function of the use of the product or in its design and manufacture. 

Judging Criteria

The winning submission will be an innovative product or service that can demonstrably offer significant environmental benefits either as a function of the use of the product or in its design and manufacture.  The candidate must be able to show:The candidate must be able to show: 

  • Environmental benefits of the use of the product
  • Environmental advantages over competitor or ‘standard’ products
  • Demonstrable consideration of the environment in the design of the product
  • Minimisation of the use of resources
  • Innovative use of reused or recycled materials
  • Reuse or recyclability of the product
  • Cost effectiveness

 Assessment criteria 

  • ALL entries submitted by post must be typed and printed on A4 paper
  • ALL submissions, both via post and electronically, must be written in English
  • Submissions may include graphs and photographs to support the entry
  • Submissions may be supported by appropriate corporate documentation to provide background for the judges
  • Submissions can be up to, but no longer than, 800 words by 1st February 2008. This word limit does not include the supporting documents mentioned above 

edie.net Environmental Manager of the Year

As the role of environmental manager continues to grow in prominence, this award seeks to find the practitioner that has excelled in improving their organisation’s environmental performance, expressing innovative thinking and practice. The winning candidate will be able to demonstrate how they have enhanced the environmental performance of an organisation.  

Judging Criteria

This award is open to anyone who has an environmental responsibility as part of their job role. Candidates for this prestigious award will come from a variety of backgrounds and sectors, reflecting the growing importance of environmental management.  The winning candidate will be able to demonstrate how they have enhanced the environmental performance of an organisation, for example by:  

  • Quantifiable environmental performance improvements
  • Promoting best practice to achieve a positive environmental impact
  • Introducing an innovative solution to an environmental problem or
  • Delivering environmental improvement in a challenging environment

Assessment criteria

  • The individual entrant must be a person with environmental responsibility clearly defined within their job function
  • Submissions MUST include a copy of the applicant’s job description
  • Submissions may include graphs and photographs to support the entry
  • Submissions may be supported by appropriate corporate documentation to provide background for the judges
  • Submissions can be up to, but no longer than, 800 words by 1st February 2008. This word limit does not include the supporting documents mentioned above.

Local Authority Environmental Manager of the Year – NEW for 2008

New for 2008, this award seeks to recognise the environmental manager that has excelled while working for one of the UK’s local authorities, by raising awareness of the environment within the organisation and improving its performance.

Judging Criteria

This award is open to local authority personnel who have an environmental responsibility as part of their job role, reflecting the growing importance of environmental management in local authorities.  The winning candidate will be able to demonstrate how they have enhanced the environmental performance of their local authority, for example by:  
  • Quantifiable environmental performance improvements

  • Environmental/energy saving benefits of the use of the product or service
  • Advantages over competitor or ‘standard’ products/services
  • Demonstrable consideration of the environment in the design of the product
  • Minimisation of the use of resources
  • Cost effectiveness

Assessment Criteria
