Partnership Initiative of the Year

At all stages of the supply chain, the industry is pioneering effective partnerships between water companies, contractors and sub-contractors. Working closely through partnerships can produce major improvements in efficiency, customer service and overall performance. Best practice will be recognised for partnerships that produce efficiency gains, safer work sites, clearer tendering and product supply, and more effective buying solutions.
Who is eligible? This category is open to water companies and authorities, consultancies, civil and process engineering contractors and specialist sub-contractors, and will include two or more partners.

The deadline for entries is February 25, 2008.

Criteria

To enter, you must submit a concise written document of no more than 1,000 words (approx) that addresses the following criteria:

  1. Name the partners in this initiative, and the nature of their business
  2. Explain how the initiative originated
  3. Describe the initiative
  4. Explain what steps were taken, and why
  5. Give specific examples of how the partnership worked in relation to the initiative
  6. Demonstrate, in a measurable way, how the partnership achieved real benefit - e.g. by exceeding stated outputs, providing key performance indicators, stakeholders' views, customer benefits etc
  7. Give evidence, if available, of how this partnership initiative has provided a model for others to follow
  8. Demonstrate any implications the partnership many have on wider issues in the water sector - i.e. land use planning, water supply efficiency, demand management, climate change

People Initiative of the Year

Finding and holding onto good staff is essential to any successful industry, and the water industry is not alone in experiencing the huge problems created by the skills shortage. This award seeks out examples of successful recruitment, training and staff retention initiatives which all parts of the industry can learn from.

Who is eligible? This category is open to every part of the water industry. Partnership initiatives are also welcome.

The deadline for entries is February 25, 2008.

Criteria

To enter, you must submit a concise written document of no more than 1,000 words (approx) that addresses the following criteria:

  1. Explain the nature of your business
  2. Name other participating organisations (if applicable) and the nature of their business
  3. Explain how the initiative originated
  4. Describe the initiative
  5. Explain what steps were taken and why
  6. Provide specific examples of how the initiative worked
  7. Demonstrate, in a measurable way, how the initiative benefited staff recruitment/training - e.g by providing key performance indicators, employee views
  8. Give evidence, if available, of how this initiative has provided a model for others to follow

Community Campaign of the Year

With Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) becoming increasingly important, the water sector, as with other industries, must make a valuable contribution to improving the public's quality of life. This award recognises those companies whose community initiatives put the public's wellbeing first and foremost. The initiative's effectiveness, contribution to the community and how it fits into a company's CSR target are crucial requirements for this category.

Who is eligible? This award is open to water companies and authorities and their contractors for campaigns or initiatives carried out at a national, regional or local level.

The deadline for entries is February 25, 2008.

Criteria

To enter, you must submit a concise written document of no more than 1,000 words (approx) that addresses the following criteria:

  1. Explain the nature of your business
  2. Name other participating organisations (if applicable) and the nature of their business
  3. Describe the campaign and its objectives
  4. Explain what steps were taken and why
  5. Demonstrate, in a measurable way, how the campaign brought real benefit - e.g. by providing key performance indicators, customer benefits, community views/testimonials
  6. Give evidence, if available, of how the campaign has provided a model for others to follow
  7. Demonstrate any implications the campaign may have on wider issues in the water sector - i.e. land use planning, demand management, climate change

Sustainability Award

Their commitment to operating in a sustainable way should be an inspiration to other organisations, whether large or small. This award seeks out trailblazers whose outstanding advance in, or continuous improvement to a product, service or management approach is achieving sustainable development.
Who is eligible? This award is open to water companies and authorities and their contractors, and to suppliers of goods, technology and management services.

The deadline for entries is February 25, 2008.

Criteria

To enter, you must submit a concise written document of no more than 1,000 words (approx) that addresses the following criteria:

  1. Explain the nature of your business
  2. Name other participating organisations (if applicable) and the nature of their business
  3. Describe the sustainability development, how it originated and its objectives
  4. Explain what steps were taken and why
  5. Demonstrate, in a measurable way, how sustainable development brought real benefit - e.g. by saving resources, lowering pollution, reducing carbon footprint, providing key performance indicators, stakeholder views customer benefits
  6. Give evidence, if available, of how the sustainable development has provided a model for others to follow
  7. Demonstrate any implications the campaign may have on wider issues in the water sector - i.e. land use planning, water supply efficiency, demand management, climate change

Innovative Technology Award

 Product and process innovation is vital if the water industry is to maintain its world-leading credentials within a restrictive investment cycle. This award recognises the products and technologies developed within the past 12 months that produce real benefits in terms of inventive and innovative technical solutions as well as process and cost efficiency and replicability.
* Three companies whose entries are judged to be the best will be invited to present their technologies to an invited audience of water companies and authorities at a special seminar as part of Innovationlive! at IWEX 2008.

The deadline for entries is February 25, 2008.

Criteria

To enter, you must submit a concise written document of no more than 1,000 words (approx) that addresses the following criteria:

  1. Explain the nature of your business
  2. Describe the product/technology and its objectives
  3. Demonstrate the originality of the product/technology
  4. Demonstrate, in a measurable way, how the product/technology brings real benefit or improvement, particularly in relation to "existing" products/technologies
  5. Explain the cost efficiency and replicability potential of the product/technology
  6. Indicate how long the product/technology has been in commercial operation/production or, if pre-market, how long the prototype has been in operation
  7. Name any external organisation that contributed to the innovation, and whether they are aware of the application
  8. Explain, if applicable, details of government funding
  9. Demonstrate any implications the product/technology may have on wider issues in the water sector - i.e. demand management, climate change(N.B. The six entries that are selected as the best in the first round of judging will each be required to make a 15-minute presentation to the judging panel on their product/technology to establish a winner and two runner-ups)

We are looking for exceptional customer care, where a water company, contractor or sub-contractor fully understands what its customers need. However it is not just about understanding customers' needs that counts, it is the action taken, high service levels and being prepared to go the extra mile to ensure customers receive the service they expect.

  3. Describe the customer care initiative and its objectives

  5. Demonstrate, in a measurable way, how the initiative brought real benefit - e.g. by providing key performance indicators, customer benefits
  6. Give evidence, if available, of how the customer care initiative has provided a model for others to follow
  7. Demonstrate any implications the initiative may have on wider issues in the water sector - i.e. water supply efficiency, demand management

Health & Safety Initiative

Health and safety must always be a priority for water companies, their contractors and suppliers. This award will recognise exceptional commitment to all-round health and safety by a company or organisation within the industry. Entrants must demonstrate a robust and high quality safety management system together with a minimum of four years' consistently excellent or continuously improving health and safety performance.

  1. Explain the nature of your business

  3. Describe the health & safety initiative and its objectives

  6. Give evidence, if available, of how the health & safety initiative has provided a model for others to follow

Research Project of the Year

Research can make a fundamental difference in providing solutions to real-life challenges within the water sector. This important category seeks to reward research projects that show creative ability and originality in the construction or design of new equipment or technology. The successful project will also demonstrate real benefits in innovative, technical solutions as well as process and cost efficiency and replicability.

The deadline for entries is February 25, 2008.

Outstanding Individual Contribution to the Water Industry

This award is for an individual who has made an outstanding and important contribution to the industry. This could be by helping raise standards, improving the industry's image, or opening up a new area of the market.
It is open to individuals from all parts of the industry - the public or private sector, regulator or regulated.

To enter, you must submit a concise written document of no more than 1,000 words (approx) that addresses the following criteria:

  1. Name the individual, their company/association and role
  2. Describe the individual's contribution to the water industry
  3. Explain what steps the person has taken to help raise standards in the water sector
  4. Demonstrate how the individual has improved the industry's image or opened up a new area of the market

Drilling & Tapping Team of the Year

The work undertaken by the distribution operatives, quite literally the water industry's men in the street, goes pretty much unheralded. Once of twice a year, however, the skills of these knights of the network take centre stage in what usually becomes the busiest, noisiest, certainly the most animated corner of water industry exhibitions - the IWO Drilling & Tapping competition.National and international teams will be taking to the floor once again to compete for the Tyco Trophy, at IWEX 2008, part of Sustainabilitylive!
